A full schedule is not always a fulfilled soul.

Life often resembles Martha’s kitchen. There are responsibilities to manage, people to serve, and problems demanding immediate attention. Like tending a garden, constant work without stopping to nourish the soil eventually produces weaker fruit. Our spiritual lives follow the same pattern. When we neglect time with the Savior, even worthwhile efforts can become burdens instead of blessings. The Lord honors faithful increase, not fearful excuses.

A healthy tree produces fruit because it is alive. Likewise, a disciple of Christ should produce evidence of spiritual life through faithful service, growth, and righteous action. Yet that same servant immediately found someone who owed him a comparatively small amount and demanded full payment without mercy. He had received freedom but chose to keep someone else in bondage.

That story reaches into every human heart. We all stand before God as debtors who could never earn forgiveness, yet through Christ, mercy is freely offered. Their assumption was that suffering must always be traced to someone’s fault. Jesus redirected their thinking entirely. He answered that neither was the cause, but that “the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

Human nature often searches for someone to blame. We do it in families, communities, and even in our own hearts. When difficulties arise, we can become trapped looking backward instead of looking upward. It is like a sailor caught in a storm who spends all his energy arguing about where the wind came from while neglecting to raise the sails. The source of the challenge may matter far less than how we respond to it.
