“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” — Acts 3:19
“Delaying repentance does not preserve freedom; it quietly surrenders it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a subtle danger in believing we can always choose later what we resist choosing today. Procrastination in spiritual matters is not harmless delay. It is a decision to remain as we are, even when we know better. Just as a small leak weakens a structure over time, postponed repentance slowly erodes clarity, conviction, and strength. Agency is a gift, but its power is greatest when exercised promptly in the direction of truth.
We often treat repentance like an appointment we can schedule at our convenience. Yet life rarely cooperates with such assumptions. Hearts can harden, habits can root deeper, and the voice of conscience can grow quieter when ignored. Acting today keeps the soul responsive. It preserves spiritual sensitivity and strengthens moral courage. Like a farmer who plants in season rather than waiting for a “better day,” the wise disciple understands that growth depends on timely action.
Christ’s invitation to repent is not a burden but a pathway to freedom. When we respond quickly, we align ourselves with divine law and open the door to peace. Delayed obedience, on the other hand, compounds weight and distance. Choosing now, even in small ways, builds a life anchored in truth and trust in God. Prompt repentance reflects a heart willing to follow Christ without hesitation.
