“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” — Ephesians 4:26
“True peace is not the absence of conviction, but the disciplined presence of it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a difference between anger that destroys and indignation that defends what is right. The Lord calls His people to be peacemakers, yet He never asks them to be passive in the face of evil. Righteous indignation is not loud, reckless outrage. It is a steady, principled response to injustice, anchored in truth and governed by self-control. Like a fire in a hearth, it warms and protects when contained, but consumes when left unchecked.
In a world that often celebrates indifference or emotional excess, disciples of Christ are called to something higher. When we see corruption, dishonesty, or harm to the innocent, it is appropriate to feel a moral stirring. That stirring is evidence of a conscience aligned with divine law. But the test is not in the feeling. It is in what we do next. Do we lash out, or do we stand firm with clarity and charity? Do we seek to correct, or merely to condemn? Righteous indignation builds where anger alone tears down.
Christ Himself demonstrated this balance. He was neither silent in the face of wrong nor careless in His response. His actions were deliberate, His motives pure, and His focus always redemptive. To follow Him is to care deeply about truth while refusing to surrender to bitterness. It is to act with courage while maintaining a heart open to mercy. This is the pattern of Christlike living.
