“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” — Matthew 25:21
“God does not measure your worth by what you were given, but by what you chose to do with it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
In the parable of the talents, each servant received a different portion. One was given five, another two, and another one. The Master did not expect equal results. He expected faithful effort. The tragedy was not that one servant had less. It was that he did nothing with what he had. His focus turned inward, shaped by fear and comparison, rather than outward in faithful action.
Comparison is a quiet thief. It distorts purpose and weakens resolve. When we measure our lives against others, we begin to excuse inaction or resent responsibility. One person sees abundance and feels inadequate. Another sees scarcity and feels justified in doing nothing. But God’s economy does not operate on comparison. It operates on stewardship. What you have been given, whether great or small, carries divine expectation. Freedom itself requires responsibility, and faith demands movement.
Indolence and entitlement stand in direct opposition to God’s design. The servant who buried his talent justified himself with excuses, yet the Master called him wicked and slothful. This is a sobering reminder that passivity is not neutrality. It is a rejection of opportunity. Growth, contribution, and diligence reflect a heart aligned with truth. When we choose to develop what God has entrusted to us, we step into a pattern of living that reflects Christ: purposeful, active, and obedient.
