“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
“When we choose to carry another’s burden, we lighten our own and fulfill a higher law of love.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
From the beginning, the question has echoed through time: Am I my brother’s keeper? The answer, written not just in scripture but in the quiet workings of the soul, is yes. We are bound together by divine design, not as isolated individuals, but as stewards of one another’s well-being. True freedom is not found in detachment, but in choosing responsibility. When we willingly lift another, we step into the kind of liberty that aligns with God’s purposes.
Life often feels like a long journey with uneven terrain. Some walk with steady footing, while others stumble under unseen weight. In those moments, we are given a sacred opportunity. Just as a strong beam supports a weakened structure, our strength can uphold someone else’s moment of weakness. This is not about solving every problem, but about showing up, listening, and offering what we can. A burden shared does not disappear, but it becomes bearable.
Christ showed us that compassion is action. He did not turn away from suffering; He stepped into it. When we follow that example, we reflect His image more clearly. Bearing one another’s burdens is not just kindness, it is covenant living. It is choosing to walk as He walked.
Scripture:
