“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;” — 1 Corinthians 10:13
“Temptation loses its power when conviction stands guard at the door of the heart.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Temptation rarely arrives as something obviously destructive. More often, it whispers in half-truths and justifications, presenting compromise as convenience. Like a slow leak in a tire, it doesn’t always stop us immediately, but over time it weakens our ability to move forward with strength and purpose. Standing firm requires more than good intentions. It demands settled conviction rooted in truth.
Freedom is not the absence of temptation, but the power to choose rightly in its presence. A nation remains strong when its people honor laws that protect what is good. In the same way, a soul remains steady when it lives by moral law written not just in scripture, but in the conscience. Each time we resist temptation, we reinforce that inner law, strengthening our ability to choose again. Each compromise, however small, erodes that strength.
Consider a tree planted by a river. Storms will come, winds will press, but its roots hold because they run deep. Temptation is the wind. Conviction is the root. When we anchor ourselves in truth daily, we are not shaken easily when pressure comes. This is not about perfection, but about direction. A life oriented toward God gains resilience with every faithful choice, reflecting the steady, obedient life of Christ.
Scripture:
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13
Daily Application:
Choose one area of recurring temptation and set a clear boundary today before the moment of decision arrives.
