“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5
“Good Friday is not good because it was easy, but because love chose sacrifice when it mattered most.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Good Friday stands as a solemn reminder that freedom is never free. Before the cross came the garden, the betrayal, the false accusations, and the long walk to Calvary. In the quiet anguish of Gethsemane, Christ chose the Father’s will over His own comfort. That moment reveals a foundational truth: moral courage is forged in private before it is displayed in public. Just as a nation’s liberty depends on the integrity of its people, our spiritual freedom depends on the choices we make when no one else sees.
The events leading up to the crucifixion show a world misusing agency. Judas traded truth for silver, leaders traded justice for power, and the crowd traded conviction for convenience. Yet in the midst of human failure, Christ remained steady. He did not react with force but responded with purpose. Like a lamb led to slaughter, He embodied restraint, discipline, and divine love. This teaches us that true strength is not found in domination but in obedience to what is right, even when it costs everything.
The cross was not an accident. It was a deliberate act of redemption. In a world where many seek to avoid responsibility, Good Friday calls us to embrace it. Christ paid a debt He did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay. That sacrifice anchors the principle that lasting freedom requires accountability, sacrifice, and a willingness to stand for truth. To walk in that same spirit is to live as He lived, anchored in purpose and guided by eternal law.
