“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God... — Isaiah 9:6
“Light entered history quietly, yet it forever outshone the darkness that ruled it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Before the Savior’s birth, the world knew progress but not peace, religion but not redemption, power but not hope. Darkness is not always loud. It can be orderly, educated, and efficient while still being spiritually empty. Into that dim landscape came a child, not as a conqueror with banners, but as light wrapped in humility. Light does not argue with darkness. It simply shines, and in shining, it changes everything.
The birth of Jesus Christ marked the turning point of human history because it restored meaning to agency and hope to responsibility. When light appears, choices become clearer. Paths once hidden are revealed. The Savior’s coming did not remove hardship, but it gave purpose to endurance and direction to freedom. Like a lantern carried through a storm, His life illuminated truth, exposed deception, and reminded mankind that moral law is not a burden but a guide. This is how light works. It does not force the traveler forward, but it makes the way visible.
This light did more than brighten the night of Bethlehem. It redeemed the world. In Christ, God did not merely sympathize with humanity. He entered it. Through His birth came the promise of His sacrifice, and through His sacrifice came liberty from sin and death. The darkest realities of the human condition were met with divine love and eternal power. To walk in His light today is to choose humility over pride, service over self, and truth over comfort. This is the steady, courageous pattern of Christlike living.
Scripture:
