“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” — Psalm 15:1
“A heart that never bends will eventually break because it invites only the force that can shatter it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
When we turn ourselves into brick walls, we leave others no choice but to meet us with the tools that break brick. Rigid spirits may feel strong, but they rarely create trust or peace. Much of life’s friction grows not from deep principle but from small, procedural matters where flexibility costs little and blesses much. A soft answer, a willing pause, or a bit of grace can do more than a dozen arguments armed with certainty.
The Savior showed us a different way. When He confronted sin, He made the conditions soft enough for repentance to take root. He did not lower the standard, but He opened the door for the sinner to walk toward it without fear. He understood that hardness paired with hardness only produces collision. Softness at the right moments produces change. True discipleship requires the courage to yield on what is trivial so we can stand firm on what is eternal. In choosing softness where life is hard, we walk in the pattern Christ set before us.
Scripture:
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” — Psalm 15:1
Daily Application:
Practice yielding once today in a moment where your instinct is to resist, offering grace instead of rigidity.
