“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.” — Romans 12:17
“Honesty is not merely the absence of lies. It is the presence of light.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a quiet difference between avoiding lies and choosing honesty. One retreats from wrongdoing while the other advances toward truth. Many people settle for simply not deceiving, yet their silence or half-truths leave room for misunderstanding. Stillness is not the same as integrity. True honesty requires the courage to speak with clarity, even when it feels uncomfortable or costly.
Honesty is an active virtue. It is like opening the curtains in a dim room. The light does not force its way in; someone must pull the cord. In the same way, we invite trust, freedom, and peace when we choose transparency over vague avoidance. God works most powerfully in hearts that allow truth to be seen. When we choose honest living, we mirror the character of Christ, who walked in perfect clarity before God and man.
Today, honest speech is an act of discipleship. It is how we protect agency, strengthen relationships, and cultivate a life anchored in moral law. Christlike living begins where excuses end and truth begins.
