“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” — Luke 2:11
“When we quiet the noise of the season, the Child in the manger speaks the truth our hearts have been missing.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
We move quickly in December. The lists grow, the calendar fills, and the world urges us to hurry. Yet the first Christmas was anything but hurried. It was quiet, unnoticed by most, and wrapped in the simplicity of a stable. When we rush through the season, we trade the miracle for the motion. The very Child who came to save us waits patiently for room in our thoughts and in our hearts.
The world pulls our attention toward things that glitter, but heaven drew its attention to a manger. God chose the smallest, humblest beginning to remind us that His power is not measured by spectacle but by truth. Remembering the Baby is remembering that freedom, redemption, and purpose entered the world through a moment the world nearly missed. Each time we return our gaze to Christ, we reclaim our agency from the noise and choose a path of peace.
As we focus on Him, the season becomes clear. The lights shine differently when we recall the Light of the World. The gifts matter differently when we remember the Gift. When our hearts turn to the Christ child, we find the strength to live with patience, charity, and reverence in a world that constantly pulls us toward distraction. This is the kind of remembering that shapes a Christlike life.
