“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” — 1 John 1:7
“Light does not shame what is willing to be healed; it strengthens what is ready to grow.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a quiet temptation in all of us to step back into the shadows when we stumble. Hiding feels safer than admitting weakness. Darkness promises privacy, but it also steals progress. Just as a garden cannot flourish without sunlight, the soul cannot mature without truth. Light exposes, yes, but it also nourishes. It reveals not to condemn, but to correct and restore.
Freedom depends on light. A free nation requires transparency and accountability; so does a free heart. When we conceal our faults, we surrender agency to fear. When we bring them into the open before God, we reclaim responsibility. The shadows whisper that we are defined by our failures. The light declares that we are refined through repentance. Moral law is not a spotlight meant to embarrass us. It is a lamp placed along the path to keep us from stumbling further.
Christ never invited people to hide. He called them forward. He met the woman at the well in her truth. He restored Peter after denial. He transformed Paul from persecutor to preacher. Each step toward the Savior is a step into greater light. Living openly before God cultivates courage, integrity, and strength of character. When we choose light over shadows, we choose growth over guilt and purpose over pretense. That is the path of Christlike living.
