“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10
“God’s wisdom is not decoration for life; it is the design that keeps the house standing.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The book of Proverbs is not a collection of random sayings. It is a blueprint. Just as an architect drafts precise lines to ensure a structure can bear weight, God gives us wisdom to help our lives withstand pressure. When storms come, and they will, the question is not whether we admire wisdom but whether we have built upon it. A blueprint ignored is a collapse waiting to happen.
Proverbs teaches that choices have consequences, that diligence yields increase, that pride precedes a fall, and that a soft answer turns away wrath. These are not merely spiritual suggestions. They are moral laws woven into the fabric of freedom itself. A society that honors honesty, restraint, and personal responsibility flourishes. A heart that fears the Lord gains discernment. Wisdom is not restrictive; it is protective. Like guardrails along a mountain road, God’s commands preserve liberty by preventing destruction.
We live in an age that prizes impulse over instruction. Yet a life built on impulse is like a house framed without measurements. It may look impressive for a moment, but it will not endure. Proverbs calls us back to intentional living. It reminds us that character is constructed daily through small, faithful decisions. When we submit our plans to God’s design, we reflect Christ, who perfectly embodied wisdom in action and truth in love.
