“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” — Romans 12:2
“A mind left unattended drifts toward confusion, but a mind anchored in truth moves with clarity and power.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The mind is a garden. If left alone, weeds grow without invitation. Fear, resentment, comparison, and doubt do not need encouragement. They arrive naturally in a fallen world. Yet God, in His mercy, has given us seed that produces life. Scripture is not merely literature to admire. It is living truth designed to reorder our thinking and steady our steps. Just as a nation must ground itself in enduring principles to remain free, a soul must root itself in eternal truth to remain steady.
Renewing the mind is an act of agency. We choose what we allow to shape our thoughts. Every headline, conversation, and entertainment choice plants something. When Scripture becomes our daily reference point, it acts like a compass recalibrating to true north. Lies lose their influence when measured against what God has spoken. Anxiety loosens its grip when confronted with divine promises. Bitterness fades when exposed to commands to forgive. Moral law is not restrictive. It is protective. It guards the pathways of the heart and keeps freedom from dissolving into chaos.
Christ modeled this renewal. When tempted, He answered with, “It is written.” He did not debate the enemy with opinion. He stood on revealed truth. If the Son of God relied on Scripture to direct His thoughts, how much more should we. To renew the mind is to submit our reasoning to God’s wisdom and to align our thinking with His character. This is how we grow into Christlike living.
