“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” — 1 Corinthians 1:27
“God does not wait for perfection; He works through obedience.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
History is often told through the names of heroes, but Scripture tells it through the stories of flawed men and women who said yes to God. They doubted, failed, hesitated, and sometimes ran in the wrong direction. Yet God did not discard them. He shaped them. Like rough stones placed into a wall, their sharp edges were not a liability but part of the structure that made the wall strong. God’s purposes were never delayed by human weakness; they were revealed through it.
We live in a culture that celebrates polish and performance. It tells us we must be ready before we are called and worthy before we are used. God works the other way around. He calls, then He refines. He assigns responsibility, then He builds capacity. Freedom itself depends on this principle. If only the perfect were allowed to act, nothing would ever move forward. Moral agency means we are trusted to choose, to repent, to grow, and to try again. God honors that trust by letting imperfect people shape families, communities, and even nations.
This truth should sober us and encourage us at the same time. It removes excuses and replaces fear with responsibility. Our weaknesses are not a license to remain unchanged, but they are also not a reason to stay on the sidelines. God shapes history through people who humble themselves, accept correction, and keep walking forward. That is how Christ lived. He embraced obedience over comfort and submission over self-protection. When we follow Him, our imperfections become places where His strength is made visible.
Scripture:
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” — 1 Corinthians 1:27
Daily Application:
Acknowledge one weakness today and intentionally offer it to God through prayer and action rather than hiding it.
