“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” — Exodus 14:14
“Stillness before God is not surrender to fear; it is confidence that truth will prevail.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There are moments when movement feels like virtue. We pace, plan, speak, and strive because action reassures us that we are in control. Yet scripture and experience testify that some battles are not won by speed or volume, but by stillness anchored in faith. Standing still is not the same as giving up. It is the deliberate choice to place the conflict where it belongs, in the hands of a just and omnipotent God. Freedom is preserved not only by courageous action, but by humble restraint when conscience tells us to wait.
Stillness refines our agency. It strips away reaction and invites discernment. When emotions demand immediate response, standing still protects us from choices that compromise character. God fights battles we cannot see, against pride, fear, and despair. When we rush ahead, we often interrupt that work. Moral law operates with precision. Truth does not need us to defend it recklessly; it needs us to live it faithfully. By standing still, we align ourselves with eternal order rather than temporary pressure.
Christ modeled this principle perfectly. He was silent before false accusation, patient under injustice, and obedient even when retreat seemed wiser than resolve. His stillness was not weakness. It was strength under perfect control. When we stand still in faith, we become like Him. We trust the Father to vindicate truth, to soften hearts, and to open doors no human force could unlock. This is how disciples live, steady, courageous, and anchored in love.
