“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7
“Freedom matures when we stop blaming the soil and start tending the seed.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Agency is one of God’s greatest gifts. It allows us to choose our direction, our habits, and our loyalties. But agency was never meant to be separated from accountability. In a world that often rewards excuses and shifts blame, owning our choices and outcomes is an act of moral courage. It is easier to point outward than inward, yet growth always begins with honest self-examination. Responsibility is not a burden placed on us by God; it is the evidence that He trusts us to act, learn, and become more.
Consider a farmer who plants in spring and expects a harvest in fall. If weeds choke the field or drought ruins the crop, wisdom asks what can be done differently next season. Foolishness shakes a fist at the sky and learns nothing. Our lives work much the same way. Some circumstances are beyond our control, but many outcomes are shaped by daily decisions we repeat quietly. When we own those decisions, we reclaim the power to change them. Accountability restores dignity because it reminds us we are not victims of fate but stewards of our conduct.
Christ never excused sin, yet He never stripped people of hope. He taught that truth sets us free, and truth always begins with personal honesty. Owning our choices does not mean drowning in guilt. It means standing in the light, confessing what is ours, and trusting God enough to walk forward in repentance and resolve. When we align our will with His law, freedom deepens and character strengthens. This is the pattern of Christlike living: humble ownership, willing correction, and faithful action.
