“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” — John 8:36
“Freedom begins the moment we stop defending our chains and start trusting the One who breaks them.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Spiritual bondage rarely announces itself with noise or drama. More often, it settles quietly into habits, fears, resentments, or sins we have learned to manage rather than confront. Like a door that slowly rusts shut, the soul can lose its sense of movement. We still believe, still pray, still try, yet something feels restrained. Bondage thrives where truth is delayed and repentance is postponed. But God never intended His children to live contained by what He has already overcome.
Deliverance is not merely escape from consequences. It is restoration of rightful order. Just as a nation cannot flourish under unjust rule, a heart cannot thrive under hidden captivity. Christ does not negotiate with bondage; He confronts it with light. When we invite Him into the places we have locked away, His presence exposes lies and weakens their hold. Freedom grows as we align our will with moral law, choosing obedience even when it costs comfort. This is not coercion; it is agency rightly used.
The cross stands as the ultimate declaration that bondage is not final. Christ bore chains we could not break so we could walk unburdened. Deliverance, then, is both a gift and a responsibility. We receive grace, and we walk differently because of it. Each act of forgiveness loosens a shackle. Each confession opens a window. Each choice to obey, though imperfect, trains the soul to breathe freely again. To live like Christ is to refuse captivity and to help others discover the same liberating truth.
