“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” — Matthew 5:8
“God does His deepest work not through flawless actions, but through honest intentions.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The purity of our motives is the quiet courtroom where truth is judged. Actions can impress crowds, but motives reveal the heart. A deed done for praise may look noble, yet carry little eternal weight. Another deed, unseen and uncelebrated, may move heaven because it was offered with humility and love. God is not confused by appearances. He looks past what we do and searches why we do it.
In a free society and a free soul, motives matter because agency matters. Choice without integrity becomes self-indulgence. Power without purity becomes corruption. Just as a clear spring is ruined by a hidden contaminant, good works are weakened when pride, fear, or selfish gain seep into our intentions. Moral law does not only govern behavior. It governs the unseen commitments of the heart. Freedom is preserved not merely by right actions, but by righteous reasons.
Christ taught this principle relentlessly. He warned against praying to be seen, giving to be praised, and serving to be rewarded. He invited us into a higher way where obedience flows from love, not performance. When motives are purified, our lives become aligned with truth. We begin to act not for applause, advantage, or control, but out of gratitude and trust in God. This is the way of Christlike living, where the heart is refined before the hands are ever raised.
Scripture:
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” — Matthew 5:8
Daily Application:
Examine one good thing you do regularly and ask God to reveal why you do it, then quietly realign your motive toward love and obedience.
