“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own?” — Acts 5:3-4
“What we hide from others may impress the crowd, but what we hide from God only weakens our own soul.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The account of Ananias and Sapphira is not merely about money. It is about integrity. They were free to keep their property, free to give all of it, or free to give only a portion. Their sin was not withholding part of the gift. Their sin was pretending to surrender everything while secretly holding something back. God was not measuring the size of their offering. He was revealing the condition of their hearts.
Integrity is much like the foundation beneath a home. Visitors admire the paint, the windows, and the landscaping, but the unseen foundation determines whether the house stands firm. In the same way, our character is built on what we do when no one is watching. A society that values appearance over honesty slowly loses its moral footing, while individuals who choose truth over image become pillars of strength for their families and communities.
The Lord desires willing hearts more than polished performances. He calls us to live transparently before Him, trusting that His grace is greater than our failures and His mercy is available when we walk in humble repentance. Choosing honesty, even when it is uncomfortable, is one more step toward becoming more like Christ.
Scripture:
“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” — Acts 5:3-4
Daily Application:
Examine one area of your life where you may be tempted to project an image that does not match reality. Bring it honestly before God today, confess it if needed, and choose integrity over appearance.
