“And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.” — Luke 22:50-51
“A faithful father does more than provide for a family. He helps reveal the character of God through his example.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Scripture repeatedly points us to God as our Father in Heaven. That title is not accidental. It teaches us something profound about His nature and His relationship with His children. A loving father protects, guides, teaches, corrects, and encourages growth. While no earthly father is perfect, faithful fathers reflect important truths about our Heavenly Father’s care and concern for us. Their influence reaches far beyond the walls of a home and often echoes across generations.
Jesus Himself demonstrated the importance of a father-child relationship. Throughout His ministry, He sought the will of His Father, prayed to His Father, and found strength in His Father’s presence. In moments of joy, challenge, and even deep suffering, Christ looked upward. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He turned to His Father for comfort and strength. His example reminds us that true power is found not in self-reliance but in faithful dependence upon God.
A father is much like a lighthouse standing along a rugged shoreline. He cannot prevent every storm, but he can provide direction when the waves rise and visibility fades. Children need that steady light. Society flourishes when fathers embrace their God-given responsibilities with courage, integrity, and love. Whether through words of wisdom, quiet sacrifice, or consistent presence, fathers help establish moral foundations that support freedom, responsibility, and faith. As we honor fathers today, we also honor the divine pattern established by our Father in Heaven. Following that pattern helps us become more Christlike in our homes, communities, and daily lives.
Scripture:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” — John 1:12
