“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15
“Grace does not require agreement. It requires a heart that remembers how patiently God has dealt with us.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Every believer has someone they love who has rejected God or turned away from Jesus Christ. That reality can bring grief, frustration, or even discouragement. Yet Scripture reminds us that while we cannot choose another person’s path, we can choose our response. Conviction belongs to the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is to live faithfully, speak truth lovingly, and leave room for God to work in hearts that only He can fully reach.
Joshua made a courageous declaration: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Notice that he did not force every nation around him to make the same decision. He simply settled the matter in his own heart and led his household by example. A lighthouse does not chase ships through the storm. It stands firm, shining steadily so others can find the way home. Our lives should reflect that same unwavering faith coupled with patient grace.
Giving grace does not mean approving of unbelief or remaining silent about truth. It means refusing to let bitterness replace compassion. We remember that every one of us was once in need of God’s mercy, and many of us came to Christ because someone patiently prayed, loved, and refused to give up on us. Christ calls us to stand firmly for truth while extending the same mercy He first extended to us.
Scripture:
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15
Daily Application:
Pray for one person who has rejected God, then look for one opportunity today to show them Christ's love through kindness, patience, or encouragement without compromising biblical truth.
