“And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.”
“Faith does not demand a seat at the table. It trusts that even one touch of God's goodness is enough to change everything.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The story of the Gentile woman who pleaded with Jesus is one of the most remarkable examples of humility joined with unwavering faith. When Jesus said, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs,” she did not become offended or walk away. Instead, she answered, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” She understood something many people miss. The power was never in the size of the portion. The power was in the One providing it.
Our world often teaches us to demand recognition, insist on our rights, and measure our worth by what we receive. God’s kingdom operates on a higher law. Humility opens doors that pride keeps shut. The woman did not argue her qualifications. She trusted Christ’s character. Like a tiny seed that grows into a mighty tree or a single spark that ignites a warm fire, even what appears small in God’s hands becomes more than enough. Faith is not measured by how loudly we ask, but by how firmly we trust.
The Lord honored her response because it reflected a heart willing to submit to truth while believing completely in His mercy. Freedom grows where humility and faith walk together. When we stop demanding control and instead place our confidence in Christ, we discover that His grace is always greater than our need. That is the path of Christlike living.
Scripture:
“And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” — Matthew 15:27–28
Daily Application:
Choose one difficult situation today and bring it to the Lord without complaint or entitlement. Pray with humble confidence, trusting that even the smallest evidence of His grace is enough to begin transforming your circumstances.
