“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” — Matthew 25:21
“God does not measure our worth by what we receive, but by what we faithfully return.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
In the parable of the talents, Jesus teaches that every person has been entrusted with something of eternal value. Time, abilities, opportunities, influence, knowledge, and resources are not accidents of life. They are sacred stewardships. The servants who invested what they had were welcomed with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” The servant who buried his talent was not condemned for having less, but for refusing to act. The Lord honors faithful increase, not fearful excuses.
A healthy tree produces fruit because it is alive. Likewise, a disciple of Christ should produce evidence of spiritual life through faithful service, growth, and righteous action. We are not called merely to preserve what has been given to us. We are called to cultivate it. Freedom itself follows this same principle. A free people who neglect virtue, responsibility, and service eventually lose what they failed to strengthen. God’s pattern is increase through faithful stewardship.
Being a profitable servant does not mean seeking worldly applause or comparing ourselves with others. It means asking each day, “How can I use what God has placed in my hands to bless His children and build His kingdom?” Every act of honest labor, every word of encouragement, every lesson learned, and every opportunity embraced becomes an offering to the Lord. As we faithfully multiply what He has entrusted to us, we become more like Jesus Christ, who perfectly fulfilled every purpose His Father placed before Him.
Scripture:
