"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 18:3
"Childlike faith is not the absence of wisdom. It is the presence of trust." — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
When Christ taught that we must become as little children, He was not calling us to be childish. He was inviting us to be trusting, teachable, and humble. Children naturally look to someone greater than themselves for guidance. They do not carry the burden of believing they must have all the answers before taking the next step. In a world that prizes skepticism and self-sufficiency, Christ reminds us that spiritual strength begins with dependence on God.
A child learning to ride a bicycle eventually lets go of the fear of falling and trusts the steady hand of a parent running alongside. Faith works much the same way. We may not see every turn in the road ahead, but we can move forward because we know who is guiding us. Freedom is not found in rejecting divine counsel. It is found in willingly aligning our choices with eternal truth. The humble heart is teachable, and the teachable heart is prepared to receive greater light.
Being childlike also means being quick to forgive, eager to learn, and willing to believe that God keeps His promises. Pride insists on controlling outcomes. Faith places outcomes in God’s hands while faithfully doing what is right. As we cultivate that kind of trust, we become more receptive to the Savior’s influence and more capable of living as He lived.
Scripture:
"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 18:3
Daily Application:
Choose one concern you have been carrying and sincerely place it before the Lord in prayer, asking for the faith to trust Him with the next step rather than demanding to see the entire path.
