"And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them." — 2 Kings 6:16
“Faith does not ignore opposition. It remembers that heaven’s resources always exceed earth’s resistance.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
When the servant of Elisha looked out and saw enemy forces surrounding the city, fear seemed like the reasonable response. Elisha answered with a truth that reaches across every generation: “They that be with us are more than they that be with them.” The servant saw horses and chariots of war. Elisha saw the unseen power of God. The difference was not in the circumstances. The difference was in perspective.
Joshua learned the same lesson on the battlefield. Time and again, he faced armies larger, stronger, and better positioned than his own. Whether confronting the kings of Canaan or leading Israel into unfamiliar territory, victory never came because Israel possessed superior numbers. Victory came because God fought for His people when they honored His commandments and trusted His promises. The battle was visible, but the deciding power was often invisible. Like a farmer trusting the seed beneath the soil before the harvest appears, Joshua moved forward believing God was already working beyond what human eyes could measure.
We face our own armies today. They may be financial pressures, family struggles, discouragement, temptation, or uncertainty about the future. The temptation is to count only what stands against us. Yet faith invites us to count what stands with us: God’s promises, His truth, His Spirit, and the strength that comes from obedience. Freedom grows when we choose faith over fear, because fear magnifies obstacles while faith magnifies God. The Savior perfectly demonstrated this principle, moving forward with confidence in His Father’s will even when opposition surrounded Him. Following Christ means trusting that divine help is greater than visible resistance.

Daily Application:
List three challenges you currently face and then write beside each one a promise of God, a blessing you have received, or a source of strength available to you through faith. Focus on what is with you, not just what is against you.
