“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2
“Faith in God does not remove responsibility. It awakens it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
True faith is not passive belief. It is a guiding force that calls a person to act with courage, honesty, and accountability. When someone believes that life has divine purpose, their choices carry deeper meaning. Faith becomes the compass that points toward responsibility. Without that compass, it is easy to drift with excuses, blame circumstances, or wait for others to fix what is within our power to improve.
Think of faith like the foundation of a house. A house without a solid foundation may look strong for a while, but storms eventually expose the weakness. Personal responsibility works the same way. When it rests on convenience or public approval, it shifts with pressure. But when it rests on faith in God’s moral law, it becomes steady and dependable. A person grounded in faith understands that freedom is not the absence of responsibility. Freedom is the opportunity to choose righteousness, diligence, and integrity even when no one is watching.
Faith also reminds us that our stewardship matters. Our time, our work, our families, and our communities are not accidents. They are assignments. When we see life through that lens, we stop asking, “Who will take care of this?” and begin asking, “What is the right thing for me to do?” That mindset builds character and strengthens societies because responsible individuals create strong homes, honest work, and trustworthy leadership.
Christ showed this pattern perfectly. He trusted the Father completely, and that faith guided every action He took. In the same way, when faith anchors our hearts, responsibility becomes an expression of discipleship. Living responsibly becomes one more way we walk in the footsteps of Christ.
