“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
“Waiting on the Lord is not passive time lost, but faithful strength being built.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a quiet tension in waiting. It stretches the heart between what is and what could be. In a world that rewards speed and instant results, waiting can feel like falling behind. Yet God’s timing is never hurried, and it is never late. Waiting on the Lord is not about standing still in doubt, but standing firm in trust. Like a seed beneath the soil, unseen growth is still real growth.
Impatience often tempts us to take control, to force outcomes, or to abandon the path altogether. But the Lord does not refine us through shortcuts. He shapes us through endurance. Just as a craftsman carefully tempers steel to increase its strength, God uses seasons of waiting to develop resilience, humility, and faith. These are the qualities that sustain true freedom, the kind that is anchored in truth rather than circumstance.
When we choose to wait without giving up, we exercise our agency in its highest form. We declare that our trust is not in immediate results, but in eternal principles. This kind of waiting is active. It is filled with prayer, growth, service, and quiet obedience. It aligns our hearts with God’s will and prepares us to receive what He has already prepared. In this, we walk the path of Christ, who trusted the Father fully, even in seasons of delay.
Scripture:
