“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” — Mark 10:9
“A strong marriage is not built on feelings that come and go, but on a covenant that chooses to stay.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
God’s design for marriage was never meant to mirror the shifting winds of emotion or convenience. It is a covenant, not a contract. Contracts are built on mutual benefit and can be broken when terms are no longer favorable. A covenant, however, is rooted in commitment, sacrifice, and sacred responsibility. In a world that often treats relationships as disposable, God calls His people to something higher, something enduring.
Marriage reflects divine order. Just as laws govern the physical world, moral laws govern relationships. When a husband and wife choose loyalty, honesty, and service, they align themselves with truth that produces stability and peace. Like a house built on a firm foundation, a marriage grounded in God’s principles can withstand storms. Without that foundation, even small pressures can cause cracks to spread. Freedom within marriage is not found in self-centeredness, but in the discipline to love, forgive, and grow together.
This design also teaches us about Christ. He does not abandon His people when they falter. He remains faithful, patient, and committed to their growth. Marriage invites us to practice that same Christlike devotion daily. It is less about finding the perfect person and more about becoming a faithful partner who reflects divine love through action.
