“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7
“Foolishness chases the applause of the moment; righteousness builds a life that can stand before God.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Scripture often contrasts two paths: the way of the fool and the way of the righteous. The fool is not simply someone who lacks intelligence. In biblical terms, foolishness is the habit of ignoring truth that has already been revealed. It is choosing the easy voice over the right one, the crowd over conscience, and comfort over character. Like a builder who refuses to measure his boards, the fool rushes forward and hopes the structure somehow stands.
Righteousness works differently. It moves with patience and humility because it recognizes that moral law is not optional. A righteous person may appear slower in a world obsessed with speed, but he is building on bedrock. Just as a farmer who respects the seasons eventually gathers a harvest, the righteous man honors God’s principles and receives lasting fruit. Freedom, whether personal or national, survives only where righteousness is valued more than impulse.
Every generation faces the same test. Foolishness promises immediate gratification, while righteousness requires discipline and faith. Yet history and scripture both confirm the same outcome. Foolishness collapses under its own weight. Righteousness quietly endures. The Savior Himself lived this pattern perfectly, choosing obedience even when it was difficult, showing us that wisdom is ultimately measured by how closely we walk with God.
Scripture:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7
Daily Application:
Pause before one decision today and ask, “Is this wise in God’s eyes, or merely convenient?” Choose the path that reflects integrity rather than impulse.
