“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.” — 1 Corinthians 1:27
“God often uses overlooked people to confront oversized problems.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Ehud’s story reminds us that strength is not always obvious at first glance. Israel suffered under the oppressive rule of King Eglon until God raised up an unlikely deliverer: a left-handed man from a marginalized tribe. Ehud succeeded not through brute force alone, but through courage, intelligence, and decisive action. Tyranny often appears invincible because it relies on fear, but fear begins losing power the moment ordinary people refuse to surrender to it.
Throughout history, oppressive systems have underestimated the quiet strength of individuals willing to think differently. Large institutions often trust size, wealth, or authority while ignoring creativity, conviction, and strategy. A single wise person can sometimes accomplish more than an army acting recklessly. Like a small key opening a massive gate, thoughtful courage can break chains that appear immovable. God frequently works through people the world overlooks because human pride tends to trust appearances instead of character.
Ehud’s story also teaches that freedom carries responsibility. Deliverance requires wisdom, bravery, and moral clarity. God calls His people not to passive fear, but to faithful action grounded in righteousness. Christ demonstrated the greatest victory through humble obedience rather than worldly status. Kingdom strength is often revealed through those willing to serve faithfully when no one expects them to matter.
