“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” — 1 Peter 5:6
“Pride often rejects the very solution that could restore us.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Naaman was a respected commander with influence, authority, and military success, yet none of those accomplishments could cure his leprosy. When the prophet instructed him to wash in the Jordan River, Naaman became offended because the solution seemed too simple and too humbling. He expected something dramatic and prestigious. His pride nearly prevented his healing. Many people miss transformation not because God withholds help, but because humility feels beneath them.
Human nature still struggles with the same temptation. People resist correction because it comes from someone less experienced, younger, or socially unnoticed. Executives ignore feedback from employees. Families reject wise counsel because it feels uncomfortable. Society often assumes that complicated answers are superior to simple truths. Yet many life-changing principles are profoundly straightforward: repentance, discipline, honesty, forgiveness, and obedience. Like medicine refused because of the bottle it comes in, wisdom is often rejected due to pride rather than lack of effectiveness.
Naaman’s healing began the moment he humbled himself enough to obey. God frequently works through ordinary means to accomplish extraordinary transformation. Christ Himself modeled humility by serving others rather than demanding status. Spiritual growth begins when people stop defending their pride and start submitting to truth.
