“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” — Matthew 25:13
“Enduring faith is not proven in a moment of light, but in the quiet preparation that keeps the lamp burning when darkness comes.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
In the parable of the ten virgins, Christ draws a clear line between those who were ready and those who were not. All had lamps. All awaited the bridegroom. Yet only five carried oil sufficient to endure the delay. The difference was not intention, but preparation. Faithfulness is measured over time, not in brief bursts of enthusiasm. It is built in the unseen choices, the daily disciplines, and the quiet commitments that shape who we become long before the moment of testing arrives.
Enduring to the end requires more than belief. It requires constancy. The wise virgins could not share their oil because spiritual readiness cannot be borrowed or transferred. Each soul is responsible for its own devotion, its own obedience, and its own relationship with God. In a culture that often seeks shortcuts, this principle calls us back to personal accountability. Freedom invites us to choose, but faithfulness requires us to continue choosing rightly, even when the path grows long or the night feels still.
The delay of the bridegroom represents the stretching of our patience and the proving of our trust. It is in that waiting that many grow weary or distracted. Yet those who endure do not merely wait—they prepare. They deepen their roots, refine their character, and guard the light entrusted to them. When the call comes, they are not scrambling; they are steady. This is the pattern of Christlike living: to remain watchful, to stay prepared, and to press forward with unwavering faith.
