“But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.” — 1 Kings 21:25
“Power without humility always demands a sacrifice it has no right to take.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The story of Jezebel is not merely about wickedness in high places. It is a warning about what happens when influence is disconnected from moral law. Jezebel used intimidation, deception, and control to achieve her desires, eventually orchestrating the death of Naboth so King Ahab could seize a vineyard that did not belong to him. She treated truth as an obstacle instead of a foundation. Whenever people believe their goals justify dishonest methods, destruction follows close behind.
Freedom cannot survive where manipulation rules. A healthy society depends on individuals who govern themselves before trying to govern others. Jezebel’s spirit was rooted in domination, not stewardship. Like a driver who cuts the brake lines because he is tired of slowing down, she removed the restraints that protected justice and human dignity. For a moment, it appeared effective. But every action taken against truth creates consequences that eventually return with greater force.
Many people today are tempted to control outcomes through pressure, fear, exaggeration, or emotional coercion. The temptation may not look as dramatic as Jezebel’s actions, but the principle is the same. God calls His people to lead with integrity, persuasion, patience, and courage. Christlike living requires strength that is disciplined by righteousness, not fueled by pride or control.
