“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” — James 1:14
“A man can lose his destiny long before he loses his strength.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The story of The Book of Judges reveals one of the greatest paradoxes in human nature through the life of Samson. God gave Samson extraordinary physical strength, yet his downfall did not begin when his hair was cut. It began when he slowly ignored small compromises. One careless decision at a time weakened the spiritual foundation beneath the visible power everyone admired. Strength without discipline eventually collapses under its own weight.
A bridge does not fail the moment the final bolt breaks. It weakens from years of unseen stress, neglected cracks, and repeated strain. The same principle governs moral life. Many people think failure arrives suddenly, but collapse usually follows a long pattern of rationalized disobedience. Samson treated sacred things casually. He believed his gifting would protect him from the consequences of his choices. That is a dangerous illusion in any generation. Talent cannot replace character, and charisma cannot substitute for obedience.
Freedom was never meant to be the license to indulge weakness. True freedom is the power to govern ourselves according to truth. Samson wanted the strength of God without fully surrendering to the authority of God. Eventually, what he refused to master became the very thing that mastered him. Yet even in failure, God’s mercy remained present. Samson’s final prayer showed humility that had long been absent from his life. The Lord can restore purpose to any heart willing to repent. Christlike living begins when strength bows willingly before righteousness.
