“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” — John 7:24
“True love does not silence truth; it speaks it with compassion and courage.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Modern culture often twists the meaning of judgment, teaching that love requires moral neutrality. Yet Christ never taught His disciples to be blind to sin. He commanded them to “judge righteous judgment,” meaning to discern between good and evil with humility and spiritual clarity. To judge righteously is not to condemn, but to see through the lens of divine truth. It is the act of standing for what is right while keeping our hearts soft toward those who have strayed.
Christ Himself called sinners to repentance, not validation. He healed the broken but never excused sin. When we follow His example, we balance conviction with compassion. We do not justify wrongdoing, but we also do not write anyone off as beyond redemption. The aim of righteous judgment is not to win arguments or elevate ourselves, but to lead souls to light. To love someone is to desire their eternal good, even if that means speaking hard truths with tenderness.
When we discern rightly, we protect freedom, strengthen families, and uphold the moral fabric of our communities. Our judgments must be anchored in scripture and guided by the Spirit. Christlike judgment discerns without pride, corrects without cruelty, and invites without coercion. It sees in every sinner a future saint and in every error an opportunity for grace.
Scripture:
“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” — John 7:24
Daily Application:
Speak truth in love today. When you see error, resist the urge to mock or remain silent. Instead, pray for the person, and if prompted by the Spirit, gently share the truth that leads to repentance and hope.
