“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” — Acts 14:22
“Is it not interesting that friction, the force that opposes motion, also happens to be the force that makes motion possible? A little opposition is required to make us convicted in our forward progress.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Without friction, movement cannot be controlled. The very resistance that seems to hinder us is what makes progress possible. In the physical world, friction allows us to walk without slipping, to drive without spinning out, and to hold objects firmly in our grasp. Spiritually, the same principle applies. The trials, delays, and oppositions we encounter give us the traction we need to grow in wisdom and strength.
When life feels difficult, it is tempting to wish away the obstacles. Yet, God often uses resistance to refine our character and align our purpose with His. Just as a blacksmith uses the friction of heat and hammering to shape metal, our Heavenly Father uses life’s pressures to shape our souls. Those who learn to cooperate with divine resistance, allowing it to strengthen rather than harden them, discover that friction becomes the very force that moves them closer to Christlike perfection.
Scripture:
“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” — Acts 14:22
Daily Application:
Identify one area of your life where you feel resistance or tension. Instead of resenting it, ask God what lesson or strength He may be developing in you through it. Choose to lean into the friction with faith, allowing it to refine your conviction and deepen your trust in His plan.
