“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:” — Matthew 7:13
“The path to the gate of hell once was rigged with briars and thorns. Today it’s paved with gold and filled with people cheering you on. In the name of tolerance, you are told to leave the light and sing a new chorus, ‘if I want it then it’s right.’” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Evil has become sophisticated in its presentation. It no longer approaches with fangs and shadows but with polished edges, bright colors, and promises that feel liberating in the moment. What once looked dangerous now appears glamorous. The enemy understands that people rarely walk into darkness willingly, so he wraps it in the language of freedom, progress, and acceptance. A golden road feels safe underfoot, even when it leads to a cliff.
This is why discernment has never been more crucial. When wrong choices are applauded and right choices are ridiculed, the pressure to conform can be subtle yet powerful. It is like stepping into a river whose current moves faster than it seems; if you stop paying attention, you drift farther than you ever intended. Christ calls us to anchor ourselves in truth, not popularity, and to let His wisdom, not applause, shape our direction.
Choosing the narrow way often feels lonely at first, but it is the only path that preserves our agency, honors God, and strengthens our character. Each time we choose what is true over what is easy, we reinforce our ability to hear the Lord’s voice more clearly. In this way, discernment becomes a daily act of Christlike devotion.
Scripture:
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:” — Matthew 7:13
Daily Application:
Identify one area where popular culture is encouraging you toward choices that contradict your spiritual convictions. Today, choose the unpopular path that aligns with truth, even if it means standing alone.
