“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” — Joshua 1:9
“The devil knows the only way evil will triumph is for good men to do nothing. So, to secure our apathy, he cloaks immorality and sin with a sense of inevitability. Once we give in to this feeling of inevitability, we lose our will to fight for our ideals.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Evil’s greatest victory is not turning good people toward corruption. It is persuading them that their courage, conviction, and choices cannot change anything. When we begin to believe that moral decline is unavoidable, we quietly step aside and let it advance. The enemy whispers that our influence is too small or that the world is too far gone. Under that illusion, resistance seems pointless and responsibility feels unnecessary.
This illusion of inevitability is crafted to freeze our agency and drain our hope. History reveals, however, that cultural turning points often began when a few determined individuals refused to bow to despair. What seemed unstoppable was overturned because someone chose to act when others hesitated. Evil grows most rapidly where good people surrender their initiative. The moment we decide that our efforts still matter, even if unseen, we reclaim the ground fear tried to take from us.
Christ teaches us that righteousness is never passive. He calls us to live with deliberate goodness, steady courage, and a belief that light can break through wherever it is carried. When we reject the lie of inevitability, we step back into the path of discipleship and demonstrate what it means to follow Him with purpose.
Scripture:
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” — Joshua 1:9
Daily Application:
Identify one area of moral or social decline that you have accepted as inevitable or beyond your influence. Take one action today to resist that trend, even if it seems small. Remember that your individual efforts matter more than you realize.
