“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” — Luke 14:28
“Realism tempered with hard work and optimism is the philosophical DNA of success. Idealism on the other hand is a philosophy that revels in great ambitions but lacks the critical connection to reality needed to build and sustain a foundation for success.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Dreams without strategy remain wishes. Success grows where vision meets honest assessment and diligent effort. Wise men and women look at the world as it is, not as they hope it will magically become, and then labor with purpose to reshape it. They refuse the false comfort of idealism that imagines obstacles away, just as they reject the defeatism that insists nothing can change. Instead they stand in the middle ground of truth, where obstacles are acknowledged and effort becomes meaningful.
Idealism feels noble because it paints a picture of what we want. Realism is more loving because it deals with what is. When we face truth squarely, we honor God’s order rather than escaping into sentiment. Real progress takes root when we accept present conditions, work within real limits, and trust the Lord to magnify our honest labor. Christlike living calls us to courage, humility, and steady obedience, building lives not on fantasy but on truth illuminated by faith.
