“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”— Galatians 6:7
“Equality of consequence is a myth politicians have sold for generations. It is impossible to guarantee, in a free society, equal results for everybody. Even God, the greatest of all, cannot promise equal consequences for all His children. That is why hell exists.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
There is a profound difference between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome. A free society can and must strive to give everyone a fair starting point, access to education, justice, and the freedom to pursue their dreams. But once freedom is introduced, outcomes will inevitably diverge because human beings make different choices, apply different levels of effort, and possess different talents, ambitions, and values.
The myth of equality of outcome appeals to our sense of compassion, but it undermines the very foundation of liberty. To ensure that everyone ends up in the same place, the state must either restrain the productive or artificially elevate the unproductive, both of which destroy the natural rewards of effort, innovation, and personal responsibility. When government or ideology promises equal results, it does so by seizing the fruit of one person’s labor to redistribute to another, ultimately punishing excellence and rewarding complacency.
Even God Himself, who is perfectly just and infinitely loving, does not impose equal outcomes. He offers salvation to all equally, but the consequences of our choices remain ours to bear. Heaven and hell are not arbitrary assignments, they are the eternal reflections of human agency. This divine pattern teaches us that while we are all equally loved, we are not equally rewarded, for justice requires that consequences correspond to choices.
In a free and moral society, we should champion equality before the law and equality of opportunity, but never confuse them with equality of consequence. True fairness lies not in everyone ending up the same, but in everyone having the freedom to choose their path, and live with the results.
Scripture:
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”— Galatians 6:7
Daily Application:
Take an honest look at your expectations about fairness and success. Are there areas in your life where you envy another’s outcomes without fully considering their effort, discipline, or sacrifice? Ask yourself whether your results reflect your choices.
Today, shift your focus away from outcomes and toward effort. Instead of comparing what others have achieved, identify what you can do differently—work harder, learn more, or make wiser choices. Freedom gives you the power to change your trajectory, but only if you take ownership of your decisions.
