“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”— Romans 8:28
“Sometimes in order to achieve our dreams we first have to succeed at something totally different. So don’t discount the experiences you have today because they may be what fuels your success tomorrow.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Success rarely comes in a straight line. Many of the people we admire today didn’t arrive at their purpose through a direct path. Their journeys were filled with detours, disappointments, and experiences that, at the time, seemed irrelevant or even wasteful. Yet God has a way of turning every chapter—no matter how disconnected it appears—into part of the larger story of our calling.
Joseph’s management of Potiphar’s house and his time in prison taught him administration, leadership, and wisdom—skills that later made him the most capable man to oversee Egypt’s survival during famine. Moses’ forty years in the desert, tending sheep, trained him to lead a nation through wilderness. David’s years as a shepherd, protecting flocks, prepared him to protect God’s people as king.
In our own lives, God often hides preparation inside what looks like postponement. The job you think is beneath you may be teaching humility, discipline, or people skills that will be essential for your greater assignment. The closed door may not be rejection but redirection. God never wastes experience—He weaves it all into His plan.
Faith means trusting that even when your life doesn’t look like your dream, it may still be leading you to it. Every success, every setback, and every “side quest” can carry purpose when viewed through the lens of divine timing.
Scripture:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”— Romans 8:28
Daily Application:
Look at your current season through a new lens. What if this isn’t a delay, but a setup? What if the skills you’re learning now are the keys to your next chapter? Instead of resenting where you are, ask God to show you what He’s preparing you for. Then, give your best effort today, trusting that excellence in your present assignment opens doors for tomorrow’s opportunities.
