“But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth”— Matthew 6:3
“The fact that the good you do may go unnoticed does not diminish its effect on those you serve. A good deed is still good even if the beneficiary is unaware of it.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
One of the greatest tests of character is whether we can do good when no one is watching and when no one will ever know. In an age of social media and self-promotion, many people have grown accustomed to broadcasting every act of kindness. Yet the highest form of goodness is that which seeks no credit, no applause, and no acknowledgment. True service is about love, not likes.
When we serve others for recognition, we make the act about ourselves rather than about them. But when our goodness is hidden, it reflects a heart that seeks only to uplift, not to impress. Christ taught this principle when He praised the widow who quietly gave her two mites, not for the size of her gift, but for the sincerity of her heart. God measures goodness by intent, not publicity.
The unseen good you do may never make headlines, but it ripples through the world in ways you cannot measure. A small kindness can heal a heart, inspire faith, or set in motion a chain of blessings that reach far beyond what you can see. Heaven records every unseen sacrifice, every unnoticed prayer, every quiet act of love. What the world overlooks, God exalts.
Remember, the purpose of goodness is transformation, not validation. The power of a righteous act lies not in who witnesses it, but in the purity of the motive behind it. When goodness is done in secret, it keeps the soul humble and the heart aligned with God’s purposes. It is in these hidden moments of grace that divine character is formed.
Scripture:
“But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth”— Matthew 6:3
Daily Application:
Today, perform an act of kindness that no one will ever trace back to you. It might be leaving an anonymous gift for someone in need, cleaning up a public space without telling anyone, or sending encouragement in secret. The goal is simple—remove yourself from the equation entirely and let love be the only motivation.
Then, as you go about your day, reflect on how liberating it feels to give without expecting anything in return. In doing so, you align your heart with God’s, who blesses the world daily without demanding our recognition.
