“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” — 2 Timothy 4:7
“Life is like a football game with interceptions, fumbles, and turnovers. Throughout the game we may fall behind, and defeat may stare us right in the face. The goal in the end is not the score but our courage to play with all we’ve got.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Life rarely unfolds as a smooth march toward victory. Just like in football, we face unexpected setbacks, plans disrupted, mistakes made, opportunities missed. At times, we feel as though we are behind on the scoreboard of life, watching others succeed while we stumble. Yet, just as in the game, the true measure of greatness is not perfection but persistence.
Each fumble or turnover provides us a chance to grow. Instead of despairing over the missteps, we can see them as moments to learn resilience, humility, and courage. A championship team isn’t defined by flawless execution but by its refusal to quit when facing adversity. Similarly, our eternal victory is not decided by the temporary scores of wins and losses but by the character, faith, and endurance we show as we keep pressing forward.
The Apostle Paul reminds us that life is a race to be finished faithfully, not a scoreboard to boast about. God cares more about the heart with which we play than the points we tally. Courage, faith, and perseverance matter more than the world’s definition of success.
Scripture:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” — 2 Timothy 4:7
Daily Application:
Think about one area of your life where you feel you’ve “dropped the ball.” Instead of fixating on the mistake, ask: What can I learn here? How can I show courage and finish this play with faith? Commit today to giving your full effort, regardless of yesterday’s setbacks or tomorrow’s uncertainties.
