“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
“The worth of the good you do, cannot be measured in silver or gold, but in its ability to heal the hearts of those you loved enough to serve. But when your good deeds go unnoticed, and your efforts end in vain, remember; to the hearts you leave unbroken, the light of your life will be their gain.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
The true measure of goodness lies not in what it earns, but in what it heals. When we serve with sincerity, expecting no applause or reward, we participate in something divine. Heaven measures success by hearts mended, burdens lifted, and souls strengthened, not by the attention we receive.
Many of Christ’s greatest acts of service were done in quiet moments with no audience. He healed the brokenhearted, washed the feet of His disciples, and forgave those who crucified Him, all without seeking recognition. Our greatest test of goodness often comes when our service goes unnoticed or unappreciated.
Yet, unseen service is never wasted. The love we pour out in obscurity becomes light in someone else’s darkness. Every good deed, even one ignored by the world, becomes part of God’s larger story of redemption. The reward may not be fame or fortune, but peace of conscience and the quiet assurance that we’ve mirrored the heart of God.
Scripture:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Daily Application:
Do one act of service today that no one will know about. It could be as simple as helping a stranger, leaving an encouraging note, or praying for someone silently. Focus entirely on the why, not the who sees it. Let the joy of service itself be your treasure.
