“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. — 2 Timothy 1:7"
“A good opinion left unspoken is worth as much as ignorance. Hence, the challenge of man is to speak the truth without regard to consequence.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Truth, when left unspoken, is truth denied. Many of us possess insights that could clarify confusion, correct error, or strengthen another’s faith, but fear often silences our conviction. We hesitate to speak, worried about rejection, offense, or the loss of comfort. Yet silence in the face of falsehood is not neutrality; it is silent consent.
When good men and women say nothing, error takes root and grows unchallenged. History shows that great evils seldom thrive because of the strength of the wicked, but because of the silence of the righteous. Whether in family discussions, community debates, or matters of faith, speaking truth is not arrogance, it’s stewardship. God gives wisdom not for private keeping, but for public good.
However, courage must be tempered with grace. Speaking truth “without regard to consequence” does not mean speaking without compassion. It means valuing truth more than comfort, but delivering it with humility, empathy, and love. Christ Himself spoke the hardest truths with both boldness and tenderness.
Every generation faces the test of whether they will speak when it matters most. Some truths will cost you popularity. Some will test friendships. Yet truth, even when unwelcome, has the power to heal, liberate, and preserve the moral foundations upon which freedom depends.
In a world filled with noise, opinions abound, but conviction is rare. The difference lies in whether we speak to be heard or to serve. A voice motivated by love and guided by wisdom can pierce through the fog of deception and bring light to others who wander in darkness.
Scripture:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; — 2 Timothy 1:7-8
Daily Application:
Think of one situation where your insight, faith, or experience could help someone, but you’ve remained silent. Maybe it’s a conversation with a friend caught in error, a loved one who needs correction, or a workplace issue where you know what’s right but fear to say it.
Today, find a thoughtful, kind, and respectful way to share that truth. You don’t need to shout or argue; you simply need to stand. Truth doesn’t need volume to have power, it needs courage to be spoken.
