“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” — Philippians 4:19
“Life, like the kingdom of God, is not a zero-sum game. Your potential for success is not diminished because someone else earned their success before you. Instead of complaining about not getting a fair share of the ‘pie,’ find the recipe and bake your own pie.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Scarcity thinking is not just a breeding ground for envy, but also a vehicle that drives its practitioners into the depths of despair. It assumes there’s only so much success to go around, and fuels the misguided notion that equity can be manufactured through a fairer distribution of limited resources rather than the diligent pursuit of human excellence and potential. The earth with its vastness, beauty, and glory is the clearest evidence of a creator who operates on abundance, not limitation. In His kingdom value can be created, not merely redistributed.
Every success story you see is proof of possibility, not a threat to your future. Sometimes the people we envy only appear “ahead” because they are further on the journey than we are. Their present success may reflect years of quiet preparation, trial, and persistence that we simply haven’t witnessed. Comparing your chapter three to someone else’s chapter twelve will always create the illusion of inequality.
It’s like an iceberg. The visible tip above the water represents the achievement we notice, but the true foundation is the massive mountain of discipline, sacrifice, and setbacks hidden beneath the surface. What we call “overnight success” is almost always years of unseen work.
And we must remember, abundance is built into the fabric of creation itself. Animals multiply, plants bear fruit, and a single tree can produce thousands of fruit and seeds in its lifetime. Imagine one tree resenting another tree for having more fruit. Such envy would be absurd, because in God’s design, growth is limitless and provision is ongoing. The same is true for us.
When we focus on creating rather than claiming, we discover there is room enough for all who are willing to work, sacrifice, and persist. The “recipe” for success is rarely hidden, it is written in principles like diligence, discipline, and faithfulness. Those who study it and apply it eventually bake their own pie.
Scripture:
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” — Philippians 4:19
Daily Application:
Today, instead of envying someone else’s success, study it with curiosity. Ask yourself: What principles made their success possible? Then, take one of those lessons and apply it to your own journey. The time you save by avoiding comparison is energy you can invest in your own growth.
