“When God comes first, everything else finds its rightful place.” — Alma Ohene-Opare

Commentary:
There is always something demanding our attention: bills to pay, children to raise, work to finish, and a future to prepare for. It is easy to begin each day asking how we will manage everything and end it wondering whether we have done enough. Jesus understood these concerns. When He taught us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, He was speaking to people who worried about food, drink, and clothing. He invited them to trust a Heavenly Father who knew their needs. That invitation still reaches us today: let your life begin with God rather than allowing worry to determine what matters most.
Seeking God first means giving Him authority over our decisions. We choose honesty even when dishonesty might bring an advantage. We honor our covenants when convenience pulls us elsewhere. We make room for prayer, scripture, and service even when our schedules are full. Like laying a foundation before building a house, these choices give our efforts something solid to rest upon. We still work, plan, and accept responsibility, but we do so with a clearer purpose. Our freedom becomes an opportunity to choose righteousness, and our ambitions become subject to the moral law of the One who sees beyond our immediate desires.
The promise that other things will be added does not mean every wish will be granted or every hardship removed. Jesus directs our confidence toward the Father’s care, not toward a life of guaranteed comfort. Sometimes His provision comes through an opportunity; sometimes through another person’s kindness; sometimes through strength to continue while we wait. We can trust Him without knowing exactly how tomorrow will unfold. As we seek His kingdom, we also learn to recognize what we truly need and loosen our grip on things that cannot satisfy the soul. To live like Christ is to seek the Father’s will first and faithfully do the work He places before us.
Scripture:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Matthew 6:33
Daily Application:
Begin today with prayer, asking God which priority needs to change so your choices better reflect His kingdom.
