“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” — Psalm 103:2
“When we remember what God has done, we gain courage for what He will do.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Memory is more than a mental exercise. It is a spiritual discipline. Throughout Scripture, the Lord commands His people to remember. Not because He forgets, but because we do. In seasons of ease, we drift. In seasons of trial, we panic. Yet when we intentionally recall God’s past mercies, fear loses its grip and faith finds its footing.
Think of a nation that forgets its founding principles. It soon wanders into confusion. In the same way, a soul that forgets God’s faithfulness becomes vulnerable to doubt. Every answered prayer, every unexpected provision, every quiet strength in a storm is a marker of mercy. These are not accidents. They are evidence. God’s past kindness is a testimony that His character does not change.
Remembering builds resilience. When we recount how He carried us through grief, restored a relationship, opened a door, or corrected our path, we anchor ourselves to truth. Gratitude becomes a shield against entitlement. Humility replaces complaint. Courage rises where anxiety once lived. The God who sustained you then has not retired now. To live with this awareness is to walk in steady confidence, reflecting the trust and obedience of Christ.
