Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom — Luke 6:38
“True charity is not a transaction of goods, but a transformation of hearts.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
Charity is often measured by what leaves our hands, yet heaven measures it by what changes within our hearts. When we give out of love rather than obligation, something sacred takes place. The receiver may gain provision, but the giver gains refinement. Pride softens. Selfishness loosens its grip. Gratitude deepens. In a culture that prizes accumulation, charity reminds us that freedom is found not in possessing more, but in becoming more.
God designed moral law so that generosity blesses both sides of the exchange. Just as iron sharpens iron, love expressed through action shapes character in both souls. The receiver is reminded that they are seen and valued. The giver is reminded that all they possess is a stewardship, not an entitlement. Charity aligns us with eternal truth: we are accountable not only for what we keep, but for what we release in faith.
A nation remains strong when its people practice voluntary goodness, not coerced compliance. Charity chosen freely reflects the agency God grants each of us. It mirrors Christ, who gave not out of excess but out of love. When we practice this kind of giving, we participate in His nature. In learning to give rightly, we learn to live Christlike.
Scripture:
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” — Luke 6:38
Daily Application:
Give something today that costs you comfort, time, or convenience, and offer it quietly without seeking recognition.
